"WHEN A HORSE THROWS A SHOE, THE LUCK IS LOST WITH IT.
TO BE LUCKY, A HORSESHOE MUST BE WORN BY HORSE UNTIL IT IS REMOVED"
🐎This real, used horseshoe has been on a horse's hoof for 6 - 8 weeks, then removed by our farrier Chris, and has been thoroughly cleaned and painted by hand to produce a lovely finish.
🐎 During the Victorian era, horseshoes were established as a way of bringing good luck to newlyweds for the duration of their lives together. Originally made from cast iron, they were said to provide strength and power to a marriage by combining the elements fire and earth.
🐎 Horseshoes have long been considered lucky. Legend recounts that, one day, the Devil walked into Dunstan’s blacksmiths shop and asked him to shoe his horse. Dunstan pretended not to recognise him and agreed to the request; but rather than nailing the shoe to the horse's hoof, he nailed it to the Devil's own foot, causing him great pain. Dunstan eventually agreed to remove the shoe, but only after extracting a promise that the Devil would never enter a household with a horseshoe nailed to the door.
🐎 The shape of each horseshoe will be different as they are fitted to each individual horse and the shoes will show signs that they have been well worn. Unique wear marks can give clues to the terrain over which the horse traveled and also tell about the particular way the horse moved.
